Master Plan Update - Prince George Airport

In late 2022, HM Aero was retained by the Prince George Airport Authority (PGAA) to prepare a Master Plan Update in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.  The intent of the Master Plan Update was to act as a comprehensive planning guide from 2023 until 2043, with the goal of providing pragmatic, evidence-based, and attainable guidance to position the Airport to meet aviation demand, create employment, and generate greater economic benefits to the region.

The Master Plan Update identified opportunities and objectives with respect to passenger air service development by the PGAA, including but not limited to increased hub and regional connectivity, winter seasonal vacation service offerings, summer seasonal tourism service offerings, and energy resource scheduled charter traffic.  Growth opportunities were also identified for the development of fixed base operators; maintenance repair and overhaul organizations; air taxi/charters, and flight training units.  Air cargo development differed from other opportunities in that the requisite infrastructure including adequate runway length and dedicated cargo apron space were currently available.

The infrastructure assessment and expansion component identified rehabilitation and development costs to be approximately $50 M in the short-term, $35 M in the medium-term and $40 M in the long-term.  The project was completed on schedule and within budget in April 2023.
