Runway Drainage Upgrades - Sachs Harbour Airport & Jean Marie River Airport
In 2018, HM Aero staff who were formerly employed with WSP Canada Inc. continued their project management role working with the Government of the Northwest Territories to complete two runway drainage upgrade design studies at Sachs Harbour Airport and Jean Marie River Airport.
At the request of the client, HM Aero staff were responsible for delivering the assignment aimed at resolving drainage issues at both airport sites. The project involved coordinating with local topographical survey providers and the management of civil, geotechnical and hydrology design teams. HM Aero staff led the project from the proposal stage, through completion of both studies (working with WSP). Study deliverables for both airport sites included recommended design improvements for ditches and culverts, as well as the provision of a Maintenance Plan.
Recommendations developed as part of the study included specifications for grading of gravel surfaces to improve drainage, adding new gravel materials, replacement of all on-site culverts, and re-grading of Airport ditches to improve overall drainage.
