Airfield Rehabilitation - Golden Municipal Airport

HM Aero was retained by the Town of St. Paul in 2023 to identify the existing condition of all airfield pavement surfaces; options for rehabilitation and associated costs; and the implementation requirements for the recommended pavement rehabilitation strategy.

The Town partnered with HM Aero to prepare a grant funding application to the Province of Alberta’s Strategic Transportation Infrastructure Program in 2023. HM Aero successfully led the preparation of all grant materials, with $1,227,000 in funding awarded in June 2024 (75% of estimated project costs).

The detailed engineering design process for a pavement overlay was completed by HM Aero during the summer of 2024, including the completion of topographic surveying and a geotechnical investigation. All project works were designed in compliance with TP312 – Aerodrome Standards and Recommended Practices (5th Edition), and several upgrades have been integrated including additional aircraft tie-down positions and apron drainage improvements.

The project was tendered by HM Aero on behalf of the Town, with a construction contract subsequently awarded in September 2024. Construction is scheduled to commence in May 2025. HM Aero will be providing full-time contract administration, resident site supervision, and stakeholder coordination services on behalf of the Town during the construction process.
